Sunday May 24, 2015
Sunday May 24, 2015
If you've ever asked the question, "Why would a good God allow bad things happen to good people?" you're in good company. This question comes up over and over in the Church and in our own lives personally, sometimes leading us to doubt in God altogether. In this message, Pastor Ken seeks to answer this very question by looking at the persecution that plagued the early Church. AD: The Pebble Principle
Sunday May 10, 2015
Sunday May 10, 2015
There's a phenomenon called the "ripple effect" that we've all experienced. You know when you toss a rock into a lake and the ripples begin small but grow as they reach out to the shore? The same principle was true of the early church. As powerful as the day of Pentecost was, the ripple effect was even stronger. Just as Jesus said, His disciples would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Samaria, and all over the world, growing in strength as it went despite persecution. We can still step into this effect, experiencing the power that's still sweeping across the globe today!

The early church was unstoppable. It continued to grow in the midst of fierce persecution from all sides. This was possible because the Holy Spirit moved powerfully in the lives of every believer and the hope of the resurrection fueled them beyond their fears. So what about today? Do we encounter the Spirit the same way? Pastor Ken confirms that the Church is still unstoppable but that sometimes as individual believers we put up barriers that disallow the Spirit to work in our lives. Removing these barriers is the key to unleashing the Kingdom as God intends it!

On the day of Pentecost, 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit was given to Jesus' disciples as promised. The appearance of Jesus to His disciples plus the indwelling of the Spirit turned a group of sheepish men into warriors for the kingdom of God. In this message, pastor Ken talks about the "who", the "what", and the "how" of the Holy Spirit and urges us to live up to the reality of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives today as baptized believers.

The fancy word used to describe God's heart for the world would be "evangelism." It's our mission and our privilege to join God's work in this way. Let's decide today to share the love of Jesus with those around us because the cost of not following him is too high!

There's little else one could do to grow in their faith more than serving. It was one of the foundations of the ministry of Jesus and it's repeatedly commanded of us throughout the Scriptures. Serving the church and the world with the gifts God gave us not only helps us grow, but it connects us to the heart of the Father, and helps fulfill His mission on this earth. Wherever you're at in the journey, decide to give God a bit of what He's given you and just see what happens!

In our spiritual lives we must never remain stagnant. If we're not growing, we're dying. Fortunately, we have some amazing tools to grow in our relationship with the Father. Scripture, prayer, fellowship, community, and giving are all ways to connect with the heart of God. If we're committed to growth as individuals our church will experience all it was meant to.
